DIRECTIONS ON GETTING TO THE MONASTERY OF ST ANTONY AT THE RED SEA

From Cairo, the distance to the Monastery is approximately 300 km, and takes about 3 and a half hours in driving.

If you are coming from Cairo, the most direct route is via the Katamia – Ain Sokhna Road (east of Maadi).

If you are coming from Heliopolis, the easiest route is to take the Cairo – Suez Road, but be sure to turn south after about 85 km at the Circular Road and follow the direction to Ain Sokhna.

From Ain Sokhna, you will drive along the scenic coastal road to Zafarana. This road runs between the mountain ranges and the beautiful waters of the Suez Gulf; a stretch of about 85 km.

Just after you reach the lighthouse station at Zafarana, you will notice a sign-posted turn off to the south for St Antony’s Monastery. This road follows the Wadi Araba back to the Nile valley at Beni Suef.
